The Court Judgment

Okay you have gone to court and received a judgment from the JP for lets say $5000, what next?

  1. Once you received the order of the court for the judgment you have to wait 30 and request an Abstract of Judgment. (see Abstract of Judgment) You need to provide some ID information with the filing so you can identify the tenant. Lets say his name is John Smith. Well there are just too many John Smiths out there so you need at least one form of ID or more if possible. IE: Drivers License, SSN, and Birthdate are the ones accepted.
  2. To get the Abstract you have to go the JP court and request it. The judge then needs to sign off on the Abstract and it is mailed to you. ($5.00 fee)
  3. Now that you have the Abstract you need to take it to the County Court House of Records and have it recorded against the tenant.
  4. Now you can go after your money owed by find his assests and getting a WRIT of Execution to collect your Judgment with interest.

I hope this helps. https://houstonevictions.com
